 Health Facility Design Guidelines

HPI is the author of a large number of Health Care Design guidelines including the current generation of web based Design Guidelines for Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres (DGHDP) for Victoria as well as the Standard Design Components of the new Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AHFG). AHFG’s have now been adopted across Australia and New Zealand.

HPI is the developer and manager of the international web service known as the Health Facility Briefing System (HFBS). This unique and powerful suite of web applications is used in the detailed, standards-based briefing process of all types of hospitals. It also provides building and equipment budgeting, benchmarking, document management and Asset Audit tools. HFBS currently has 1200 trained users, 402 health projects, 1022 health sites with more than 3000 completed buildings.

 Public Health Care Facilities

HPI is experienced in every aspect of the design of large and small public hospitals. These include the largest and busiest Teaching Hospitals, Emergency Departments, Digital Operating Suites, Intensive Care, Radiotherapy and Mental Health facilities.

HPI is an acknowledged Australian leader in the design of Private Hospitals. HPI has worked with the largest health care operators in Australia such as Ramsay Health Care and Healthscope, establishing a high standard in quality as well as value for money. HPI is the author of the benchmark guideline for the calculation of cost per bed in private hospitals.

HPI’s involvement in hospital projects often begins before there is an agreed site or operator. HPI’s tried and tested methodology brings all the key stakeholders together and leads the process from feasibility and briefing to design and construction. On many hospital projects, HPI also acts as the Project Manager, monitoring the construction process to the complete hand-over and post-occupancy evaluation.

Through years of experience, HPI has fine tuned the art and science of packaging the right components, both commercial and clinical to create attractive investments in Greenfield Private Hospitals. The special HPI expertise involve the creation of Turnkey development packages and associated contracts, Strata Subdivision of Hospital components and a combination of lease and sale for Medical Suites. The briefing, design and management techniques used, produce some of the lowest cost-per-bed outcomes, whilst achieving some of the highest standards of planning and construction.
