GUIDELINE DEVELOPMENT DATABASE

HPI’s proprietary “Guidelines” database system was specifically developed as a knowledge base or “clause processor”. The system classifies concepts, thoughts, references and links. These can be cross indexed, selected, refined and then automatically published as guidelines in a range of topics.

The Guidelines Database was originally developed as a way of passing on the knowledge gathered on the projects to new generation of employees at HPI. The system soon developed into a system for creating design guidelines for internal and external use.

The knowledge base created with this system includes built-in charts, web links, graphics (including drawings) etc. Concepts and clauses can be shifted, categorised, classified and published. Using the same database, it is possible to publish selected subjects or categories. At all times, the full knowledge base remains intact.

The output of the system can be in one of the following formats:

  • Paper print, automatically formatted
  • Web pages with navigation
  • CD Rom versions of web pages
  • Word processing formats
